    Synopsis:

    The Finite Element Method (FEM) is today’s most widely used numerical technique to solve partial differential equations. As such, FEM is used in various applications in engineering and science including fluid mechanics, solid mechanics, electromagnetic, image processing, climate modeling, quantum mechanics and even astrophysics. Moreover, FEM helps tremendously in engineering design in mechanical and civil engineering. In this talk, we first discuss the FEM and its engineering applications. Software tools are inevitable when it comes to actual implementation of the FEM to solve real world problems. We will further discuss numerous open-source and commercial FEM software available to use in engineering design
